IMPROVING LIVES IS AS IMPORTANT AS MAKING PROFITS – ZAMBIAN BREWERIES

Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) awards ZB in water stewardship, business leader in fighting HIV/AIDS and exemplary support to ZACCI

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zambian Breweries’ sustainability activities are over and above making a profit and have caught the attention of the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI).

ZB received an award for its work in water stewardship, another for its business leadership in fighting HIV/AIDS, and yet another for its exemplary support to ZACCI.

During the presentation of the awards to company corporate affairs director Ezekiel Sekele, ZACCI president Michael Nyirenda congratulated Zambian Breweries for its industry leadership. Mr Nyirenda said ZACCI will continue forging partnerships with private sector players like Zambian Breweries and thanked the company for supporting ZACCI.

“I would like to sincerely congratulate Zambian Breweries for winning three awards at the recently held gala dinner,” he said.

Mr Nyirenda stressed that improving lives was as important as making profits and implored other players to emulate Zambian Breweries’ corporate social responsibility (CSR).

On the receiving end, corporate affairs director Ezekiel Sekele said the company was humbled by receiving three of the possible eight ZACCI awards, stating that the company’s CSR efforts are developmental and are best based on partnerships.

“We are delighted that ZACCI has noticed our proactivity in working with ZACCI and other stakeholders. The awards are a demonstration of the trust the chamber has in us. We are extremely humbled and encouraged that we are on the right track,” Mr. Sekele said.

“As Zambian Breweries employees, our dream is to bring people together for a better Zambia and our growth and prosperity as a company are intertwined with the successes of the Zambian people,” he added.

Zambian Breweries, through AB InBev’s global 2025 sustainable goals, has identified key areas of supporting water stewardship through its Itawa project, Kafue lower basin and Lusaka West. ZB has a partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to conserve the Kafue Basin, is supporting the 2017/2018 cholera fight. It is backing a forthcoming agreement with Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company to drill two industrial boreholes in Lusaka, to help prevent cholera and enhance clean water supply.
