Testimony to its commitment to the Saudi Arabian market, Astec Industries, through its Africa and Middle East (AME) subsidiary, has appointed Bunyan Gulf Trading as a new dealer in the Kingdom.
As part of the dealer agreement, which is effective March 1, 2023, Bunyan Gulf Trading will be responsible for the sales and support of Astec’s range of infrastructure solutions – asphalt and specialty plants, terminals, and equipment.
The strategic appointment of Bunyan Gulf Trading, an established name in the Saudi Arabian asphalt plant market, allows Astec to tap into the country’s US$1 trillion-dollar pipeline of infrastructure projects, while affording customers in the Kingdom immediate access to cutting edge Astec infrastructure solutions.
Selim Beji, Regional Sales Manager, AME, Infrastructure Solutions, says Astec offers a full line of continuous and batch process plants – both stationary and mobile. “With Saudi Arabia being largely a batch plant market, Bunyan will promote our BG Series in 100, 160 and 200 ton per hour (tph) sizes. We will also be adding a 240 tph offering in the short term. Both companies will also cooperate on special asphalt and bitumen solutions, such as long-term HMA storage solutions and bitumen plants,” says Beji.
Inzamam Mushtaq, Regional Sales Manager at ASTEC Industries, says a deep understanding of the asphalt plant market was key to the appointment of Bunyan Gulf Trading.
Commenting on the prospects of growth, Mushtaq is highly encouraged by the projected infrastructure investment. In line with its Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has announced a trillion-dollar pipeline of infrastructure projects aimed at diversifying the economy beyond oil.
“On the back of mega projects such as NEOM, The Red Sea Development Project, The Mukaab (Cube), Diriyah Gate Project, Qiddiya Project, Sports Track Project Riyadh, and several others, there is a growing need for asphalt/recycled asphalt in the Saudi market,” says Mushtaq. “Increased government and private sector expenditure on road construction and infrastructure development is expected to accelerate demand for asphalt plants for years to come.”
According to Beji, Saudi Arabia represents up to 70% of the region’s potential for this line of products. “It is estimated that there are 400-500 operating plants in the Kingdom and a minimum of 20-30 plants are imported annually.” concludes Beji.
